micro1: the work, the pay and the screening

What micro1 is

micro1 is an AI data company. It hires domain experts as remote contractors to train and evaluate AI models: the qualification is knowing a field, and the work is applying that knowledge to a model's output rather than to a client's project.

It is the only platform this site currently tracks, so every role listed here is a micro1 role. We are not part of micro1, we do not recruit for it, and we are not its agent, representative or partner. How we earn from this sets out the one commercial link there is.

What the work involves

It is contract work, not employment. It is remote. Some projects pay hourly and some pay per task; every listing we track that states a rate states it per hour. The roles are specific rather than general-purpose: the 266 listings open this morning cover 26 of the professions on this site.

What a working day actually looks like, how much work reaches you once you are on a project, and how long a project runs are not stated on micro1's public pages, and we have not done the work ourselves. We would rather leave those blank than describe a job we have not seen.

What it pays

Across the 266 open micro1 listings we track, listed rates span $6–400 an hour in US dollars, exactly as each posting states them, before anything the platform deducts. That is a span, not an average: the top of it belongs to a handful of specialist roles and the bottom to transcription work. The only pay figure we ever show is the one on the posting. We do not estimate, and we do not convert currency.

A listing and an opening are different things: one listing can be hiring many people. The 266 listings add up to 60,732 stated openings, of which 60,729 come from listings whose counts micro1 states and we have not verified ourselves. Wherever that number appears on this site, it is labelled.

When and how micro1 pays out for completed work is a separate question, and not one we can answer: see what we do not know.

How the screening works

You apply for a role, then sit an AI interview that micro1 describes as taking 20 to 40 minutes. That interview is the screening step micro1 sets out publicly, and no prior AI experience is required for many of the roles.

How long a decision takes after that interview, and what happens between the interview and a first project, we do not know.

Who can apply

Anyone can apply. micro1 does not require prior AI experience for many of its roles, and the listings say so where it applies. The work is remote, so the constraint is usually the subject knowledge a role asks for rather than where you live.

Specialist roles are the other end of the same platform: the physics and engineering listings name the field, and sometimes the level, in the title itself. Read the title before the pay — it is the part that tells you whether a role is for you.

Is micro1 legit?

That is the question people arrive here asking, so here is the honest shape of the answer. micro1 is a real company with public role listings, published referral terms and a working application process. That is what we can verify from the outside, and it is all we claim.

What we are not: hired by micro1, paid by micro1 for training work, or in possession of a single account of someone's experience on the platform that we could stand behind. So this page carries no testimonials, no payout stories and no numbers about how many people have been placed. If you see those elsewhere, ask who verified them.

What we do not know

These are the questions we cannot answer yet. Each one is a real gap, not a hedge, and this list shrinks as we confirm things.

• The payment schedule. When and how often micro1 pays for completed work, and by what method. Not stated on its public pages, and we are not going to invent a cadence.
• How long approval takes. The gap between finishing the AI interview and hearing back.
• How long a referral click stays credited. micro1's terms require sign-up through the link but do not state an attribution window.
• Whether hiring keeps pace with the stated openings. A listing can state thousands of openings; how many people are actually taken on, we have no way to see.

How we earn from this

This site is paid by micro1's referral programme, and nothing else. If you reach micro1 through a link here, sign up, are hired and complete 10 hours of work — or the equivalent in tasks on a pay-per-task project — micro1 pays this site a flat referral fee for that role. Nothing is paid for a click, an application or an interview.

It never changes what you are paid, and it does not decide what appears here: we list every role we find, whether or not it earns us anything.

The rest of the mechanics, as micro1's terms set them out:

• Flat fee per role, up to $3,000. The amount depends on the role. We do not publish the per-role figure.
• Credit requires the link. Attribution only happens if you sign up through the referral link. There is no retroactive credit, so if you go to micro1 directly, this site earns nothing.
• Anyone can refer. You do not have to be a micro1 member or contractor to refer someone. We hold no special status.
• Paid into a micro1 wallet. Fees land in a micro1 wallet and can be withdrawn from there.
• Tax is the referrer's problem. Any tax on a referral fee is the referrer's responsibility, not micro1's.
• Sanctioned regions are excluded from the programme.
• micro1 controls the programme. It may modify or discontinue it at any time without notice, and may withhold or claw back payouts at its discretion.

What happens when you apply

The apply button sits on each role page, never on a page meant to be shared. Pressing it sends you through our own /go/ redirect, which records that a role was clicked — no cookie, no personal data — and then on to micro1.

One thing to expect, because it would otherwise be a surprise: micro1's referral link has no per-role destination. Whichever role you came from, you land on the same catalogue of micro1 roles and have to find yours by name in that list. Sign up from there and the credit holds; go around the link and it does not.
